It may just be a Texas thing, but I grew up in a barbecue house. It was pretty common for us to have some kind of grilled food five (and probably seven) times a week! We're not just talking meat here, my dad cooked everything on the grill from potatoes to pineapple... this was normal for me. When I went to college, I started to miss Dad's BBQ and always looked forward to it when I went home. Now I am lucky enough to be married to a converted Texan who's become quite the griller and smoker of meats. Thanks to his new talent, we love to have friends over for summer meals in the back yard. Our latest brought on this design, as part of our June feature you can get it on sale as a custom design as well as a fill-in version, and I suspect there will be many more BBQ invites to come!

There's something about the smell of watermelon that just means summer. I love to see the trucks with trailers full of ripe watermelons and homemade poster board signs parked on the side of the road selling fresh watermelon. Brings back memories of sitting on Nana's porch growing up eating what must have been our weight in watermelon, seed spitting contests with my brother and cousin over the side of the porch rail with the sound of the icecream maker churning in the background.

I hadn't thought much of these days - or buying watermelons - until my four-year-old son started begging for watermelon every time we went to the grocery store. Its amazing how smells can bring back memories... so in honor of summer and endless days of enjoying cool watermelon in the sun, check out www.watermelon.org for some awesome carving ideas, recipes and watermelon facts. And if you're like me and you're just looking for an excuse to get together with your friends, host a summer watermelon potluck and see how many unique recipes you can get! And in honor of this fabulous fruit check out the watermelon inspired note cards and invitations in our June Feature!
